Fantastic! We have a Kenmore 970 242623 bought in Canada and an exact match -- the drain was plugged and the whole cut/window in the bottom of the panel inside the freezer compartment at the back was a solid block of ice. Just needed to watch the first half of the video to realize that this was fixable. Total success. Thanks for sharing. An bravo repairing some things ourselves.

The whole long skinny vent of the lower back panel just over the drain on our freezer is filled with ice. I'm hoping its from someone leaving it open and a simple defrost will fix it. I had to search a long time to find a video with a freezer similar to the one we have here, sure was glad to see this video! I took the kick plate off the front to see if there was a drain pan that might need emptying as well, but there's no pan of any sort underneath. I wonder if there's a drain pan inside somewhere that I need to be worried about.

I never disassmble mine like you did. No need to. Use the heat gun to melt the ice and once the ive is melted remove the plastic strainer and then melt the chunk of ice that’s blocking the water from draining. You won’t see it until you remove the plastic strainer cover. Then, once a month run the manual defrost by pressing the temperature and reset buttons simulateously until the display reads “de”.

Always poke ice with a screwdriver, otherwise you won’t puncture the thing that holds the coolant lol

We've been getting drips at the front of our unit of the same make/model at the doors and could never find any way the ice at the bottom was supposed to drain out other than manually hacking it out. This all happened after the freezer was moved from one house to another but we had used it for so many years before the move without seeing any issue. In addition to having a clogged and iced drain, it turned out that our door seal had the tiniest of tears right by the door hinge and on the underside of the freezer door. I wasn't satisfied after having fixed one issue with the drain to see another with water still leaking on the door hinge and onto the floor. So I unscrewed the door shelves and found not only the tear in the sealing strip adjacent to the hinge, but also a mess of frost and insulation that had gotten damp, weighed down, and frozen repeatedly.

just a fyi. The Styrofoam cup behind the cover should be glued to the back cover and sealed where the wires go in. It keeps the cold from the evaporator from turning off the affecting the thermometer in the temp control. Otherwise, the thermometer will be satisfied before the freezer compartment is

Always change your defrost timer, they are good for 5-7 years but internally look like a child's toy! About $25-$45.

mine was leaking on the floor looked at a few vids and this one seemed to match the inside of mine. she was iced up pretty dam bad down there so i cleaned it all out and ran a little tap water thru the drain. sure hope that was my issue

Frigidaire is nothing but problems. My mom had a fridge that gave her trouble for ages and we bought a frigidaire freezer back at the end of February that keeps icing up the fan. The new freezer design though is such that you jave to take all the food out and every single shelf to get the cover off to access the fan. It's beyond ridiculous!! 4 months into owning it, it iced up the first time, now 6 weeks later same exact thing. $900 hunk of junk!

Well I wish my problem was that easy. I have the exact same freezer, it's a Frigidaire/Electrolux/Westinghouse. Mine wasn't cooling after only 5 years of use. The evaporator fan wasn't coming on no matter what the defrost timer was set to. There was no voltage at the wiring harness to the fan. I tested my defrost timer using a method I saw on a repair site with one multimeter lead on common and alternating the other lead to the other three pins on the timer and it looked bad to me, but I brought it to a friend that repairs appliances and he said it was fine...he tested the pins differently than I read online. He told me to disconnect the two bottom wires on the thermostat (temp control) and connect them together with a wire to bypass the thermostat. I did that and plugged in the freezer and pushed the door switch and everything came on, so it was a bad thermostat, about $50-60. From reading online it appears this freezer has these kinds of issues all the time. Anyway, thanks for the video, I used it as a reference, but I'm still trying to see which wires you had connected to the thermostat because I didn't take a picture before I disconnected it.

My question is how the world did you get that metal shelf out... It was out when the video started.....
